- 2020 BMW S 1000 XR gets the same engine as the S 1000 RR.
- The S 1000 XR no longer has an asymmetric face, gets twin LED headlights.
- The S 1000 XR rivals are the Kawasaki Versys 1000 and the Ducati Multistrada 1260 S.

BMW has launched the updated S 1000 XR in India at an eye-watering Rs 20.90 lakh (ex-showroom India). For that much moolah, you expect BMW to give you a kidney grille but what it does get is a new symmetrical face with LED headlights. The sharp front accentuates the bike’s appeal. It might look tall but it is far from being an adventure bike, meant to be doing its bidding on tarmac only. It shares its 999cc motor with the S 1000 RR sportsbike but it is slightly detuned for the tourer and also misses out on ShiftCam. What it does get is electronically adjustable suspension that dynamically adjusts the suspension damping according to the road conditions. The S 1000 XR is quite unique and there are very few bikes like it, namely just the Kawasaki Versys 1000 and the Ducati Multistrada 1260 S.
