The return of “Tinmama”, T2K’s custom 1940 Chevy SEMA build

Young builders all over the country are competing in the SEMA Young Guns Regional competition for a chance to win a trip to the 2019 trade-only SEMA Show and have their vehicle displayed at the Show. Luke Merrill spends some time with us at the Street Machine Summer Nationals in St. Paul, MN, one of the Regional Qualifier stops for the competition.

Luke’s first restoration was a 1965 Chevy C-10 about seven years ago that was gifted to him as a “gag” graduation present. To everyone’s surprise, he took it upon himself to do a thorough restoration of the truck and he’s been at it ever since.

For his 2019 Battle of the Builders entry, Luke is spotlighting a 1940 Chevy 2-door sedan wide body that’s been chopped. He’s building this “Tinmama” for no one other than his own Mom. He’s put over 1,000+ hours of metalwork into this car that’s been in his family for almost 30 years. Originally, Luke planned to debut this build at SEMA Show in 2018 but ran into some setbacks that convinced him to hold off until this years’ competition.

The Regional Competitions open the program up to 10 more “Young Guns” who may not already be showcasing a vehicle at the SEMA Show, by partnering with event organizers throughout the country. Grand Prize is an all-expenses-paid trip for two to the 2019 SEMA Show, transportation of the winner’s vehicle, a designated feature spot, and entry into the Battle of the Builders competition.
