Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2012

Added by AutomotiveUploads
It all started with kicking up the jiffy stand and cranking up my new 02 Harley Davidson Road King. This trip was finally getting started after thinking about it for almost a year. It's funny how things work out. About three years ago one of my best friends (Mike Newell) had a near death experience, went thru a religious phase, and then bought a touring motorcycle. Since then he's been riding, a lot. He rode all over Texas and into Arkansas. Every year he and his posse would take a big road trip and every year he asked me to come along. This year their destination was Sturgis South Dakota. I knew sooner or later I would find some spare time and cash, get another motorcycle and join them on a ride. I took time for granted.
Then it happened to me, my near death experience. I didn't have to spend three months in the hospital like Mike, but my three days in there was enough for me to put in perspective how short life could be. It was time to turn on that back burner and get a bike!
I have owned motorcycles before, just about all the makes but never a Harley. That was about to change. A friend of mine, Edo Schrieber was giving me a hard time about having a heart attack at my age. I retaliated by giving him a hard time about owning a Harley and never riding it. At that moment destiny and generosity combined and something magical happened (that first ingredient went into that pot on the back burner). Edo asked me to make him an offer on his 2006 Harley Davidson Custom Sportster 1200. He was serious and probably would have taken any offer I gave him. I told him that I didn't want to insult him but asked the he give me a price. He said $1500.00. Without hesitation I blurted out SOLD! I said it like a kid meaning - no take backs! At the time I didn't know what it was worth. I knew that he didn't ride it much so it would have low miles on it and the price sounded great. When I took possession of it there were only 402 miles on it. That made it worth almost 4 times what he sold it to me for. It didn't take long for me to realize how generous Edo was to me that day. Thanks Again Edo!
