FHS Driving Impaired FAKE Prom Accident - 2017

Fairfield Police and Firefighters, along with Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies, Midwest Ambulance and Lockridge Fire and Rescue participated in a mock auto collision Wednesday at Fairfield High School; a training exercise for the emergency responders and an important lesson for Fairfield High School students, including a “fatality” and lifelike injuries, courtesy of the FHS Drama Department. According to a study by the University of Iowa, distracted driving is the number one cause of auto accidents among teenagers and a recent Iowa Youth Survey showed almost half of Jefferson County students said it was easy for them to acquire alcohol. With the Prom this weekend and Graduation celebrations around the corner, the students were shown the possible tragic outcome of distracted and impaired driving. Teenagers feel invincible. Some don’t feel like it can happen to them.

Principal Brian Stone commented, that if by holding the event, it saved just one life, it’s worth it. The prom should be a fun and exciting time. Not tragic.
