2020 PORSCHE 992 TARGA SPIED TESTING AT THE NÜRBURGRING

During the Industry Pool at the Nürburgring I have filmed the 2020 Porsche 992 Targa testing on track and surrounding roads.

The latest new Porsche 992 family member to strut its stuff in front of our spy photographer’s cameras is the next-generation Targa, seen here devouring the Nurburgring virtually undisguised and wearing a very bright shade of green, same as this 911Cabriolet model we saw back in December.

Unlike the regular Cabriolet, the Targa can be described as a bit more exotic thanks to its iconic roof pillar design, or “Targa bar”. The mechanism appears to be the same as before, with the top edges sliding up and inwards, in order to allow the roof to retract.

In case you have any doubts about this being the all-new 992 Targa, a simple glance at the rear end design or the door handles for that matter, should set your mind at ease. Compared to its predecessor, it features new headlights, revised air intakes, new LED daytime running lights, a reshaped hood, wider fenders and a horizontal light strip for the rear fascia.

Inside, it will have the exact same tech as its already-unveiled fixed roof sibling, meaning a new instrument cluster, revised switchgear and a larger 10.9-inch infotainment display, all embedded into a more angular dashboard – a throwback to 1970s designs.

We can only assume that the 2020 Porsche 911 Targa will get the same power bump as the regular all-new Carrera, meaning the base version will go from 370 horses to 380, while the Targa 4S will be good for 444 HP (450 PS) instead of 414 HP (420 PS).

Porsche will likely unveil their newest Targa model later on this year, possibly at the Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-September.
